DESIGNED VOLUME
An L-shaped volume is added to the building site. This building together with Microlab forms a semi-private, intimate public scare in between the buildings. The volume is designed with a stepwise roof, which improves the flow from the lower surrounding neighbourhoods and the higher buildings at Strijp-S. The building will consist of commercial space on the ground floor and owner-occupied dwellings on the upper floors.
The south and west façade are patterned with different types of translucent solar panels in a diagonal pattern, which further enhances the tiered shape and the slow integration with the surrounding neighbourhood the volume already has. The transparent solar panels in front of the balconies are not just there for energy and aesthetical purposes. The space created by these elements also functions as a sunspace.  The inside air is heated by the sun, which then rises and leaves the space. This creates natural ventilation, which reduces the energy demand.
The east and north façade are cladded with polycarbonate, a material with a low embodied energy which is slightly translucent. As a consequence of this, the wooden structure that holds up the cladding is vaguely visible. This fits well with the rest of Strijp-S, since the area is very technical oriented, and a lot of structures are visible, like the metal pipelines and the structural elements inside of the atrium. The façade is interrupted with white cladding. This adds an element of horizontality to the building, which matches Microlab façade. It also helps to tie the balconies and the gallery in with the rest of the design.
RESIDENTIALÂ UNITS
STARTERÂ APARTMENT
In the additional developed building, different types of apartments will be realized. One of these is the starter apartment. The starter apartment is a one-bedroom apartment of 70 m2. With a bedroom facing the gallery and a balcony facing the park in front of the building, a resident can experience the vibrant but intimate feelings that are present in Genderwaard. The apartment is perfect for starters looking for their first owner-occupied dwelling.
CORNER APARTMENT
Just as desirable as the corner office is the corner apartment. With a size of 100 to 110 m2, two bedrooms and a large living room, this apartment is perfect for young professionals with the intention of starting a family soon. The apartment also consists of two balconies, which give a picture frame view on the surrounding area and greenery.
PENTHOUSE APARTMENT A
On one of the higher floors, a penthouse apartment will be developed of approximately 140 m2. This apartment let the resident really experience all the qualities of the building and the surrounding area. Large windows picture the greenery that surrounds the building. With the large living room and two bedrooms, the penthouse apartment fits perfect for young urban professionals. There is more than enough space to receive guests or create an office.
PENTHOUS APARTMENT B
On the upper floors of the building, two penthouse apartments will be developed of approximately 175 m2. These apartments let the resident really experience all the qualities of the building and the surrounding area. Large windows picture the greenery that surrounds the building. With the large living room and three bedrooms, the penthouse apartment fits perfect for young urban professionals. There is more than enough space to receive guests or create an office.
SUNSPACES
All the apartments in the developed building on the building have access to a balcony, more specifically a sunspace. The balconies are closed off by a wall of transparent solar panels and glass. This creates a space where in the summer a resident can enjoy the environment but be protected from the sun and in the winter the same but then in a warmer space. Below in the picture, a section is visible through the facade, which clearly shows the construction of the sunspaces.

Building Model
The physical model shows both partly the structure of the developed building site volume and the architectural aspects of it. What is clearly visible is the presence of the balconies in the sunspaces. Furthermore, the large industrial facade of the ground floor connects well to the current Microlab.
